OBJECTIVES AND SCOPE

3rd International Gastronomic Tourism Congress will be organized concurrently with TRAVEL TURKEY IZMIR 2017 Fair between 7 – 9 December 2017 at fuarizmir by İzmir Fair Services Culture and Art Affairs Trade Inc. (İZFAŞ) and Association of Turkish Travel Agencies (TÜRSAB) with the aim of gathering the leaders of gastronomy and tourism experts and educators, discussing the new approaches, trends that are helpful to improve the tourism industry. In the congress where the contribution of the gastronomic to the tourism of the region will be discussed, academic reports of congress are managed  by Dokuz Eylul University and Izmir University of Economics. A congress book will be published as a result of the evaluations of the scientific board members. The language of the congress book will be in English. 

This congress, which will be prepared based on the history of how the culture of diverse beliefs reflected on cuisine, will display already existing gastro-regions, the new regional possibilities, new gastronomy movements and gastronomy heritages. Given the entertainment habits accompanying the eating culture and food in Izmir and nearby regions, it is clear that we are in a quite convenient position to benefit from gastronomic tourism in regional marketing.

Food culture is one of the ways for a society to express itself and its own lifestyle. Gastronomy is a discipline that observes relationship between food and culture and today it is described as a secondary important factor at a region besides the primary touristic factor known as “sightseeing”.
